Schools in the Coffs Area

We have two beautiful boys, 6 and 9 years, with ASD and we were required to relocate to the Coffs Coast Area in February, this year. We contacted the Department of Education Office in Grafton as the number of schools was daunting. They were very helpful in advising on needs appropriate schools in the area.

We ultimately decided upon William Bayldon Primary School and we have been very happy with the progress they have made at the school. The School is smaller in numbers, around 200, and the Teachers are extremely honest and very approachable. The school is a DET Priority School and has a Special Needs unit, which may suit your family’s needs. The important thing is to base your decision on the quality of teaching and programs that are offered at each School and not the area.

In regards to funding, our 9 year old receives funding support and we have only just applied for funding for our 6 year old last week. The School Counselor has guided us through the process/application and despite having no funding he receives daily one on one support in the class room, as well as participating in the Integrated Sensory Program. When starting at the school he could barely read and is now reading at level 12, which has been achieved with the support he receives in the classroom.

I would strongly recommend contacting the Department of Education for the North Coast Area as they can offer you suggestions based upon your children’s needs and it certainly helped us.
